PostPosted: Thu Jan 30, 2014 3:02 pm    Post subject: Is Anyone Interested in BF4 Training?

Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone would like to attend some BF4 training as instructed by yours truly? I can spin up a cheap private server to give us a nice quiet place to learn. I've listed a whole bunch of topics below but I'd like to tailor it to your interests. You guys tell me what the priority should be or just simply what you're most interested in. We can do them all in one sitting or break it up into smaller sessions, whatever you'd like, just let me know what you'd like to do. Also, feel free to suggest any topics I forgot to list.

Topics under consideration.
Infantry Combat:
  • Demonstrate the different spotting mechanisms and how Field Upgrades can impact spotting.
  • Effectively utilizing cover and concealment
  • Terminology: Slow Peek, ADS, Hip Fire, Pre-fire, Shading, Burn
  • Effective communication: how to report contacts, acknowledging contact calls
  • When to Run & Gun vs When to Peek
  • Show the differences in Tap Fire, Burst Fire, and Mag Dump
  • Weapon How-to's: XM-25, SRAW and Javelin Stacking (if it still works)
  • Understanding the different sounds in-game or "How to act like a wall/radar hacker"
  • Basic Squad Movement - how to stick with the squad and how to call out contacts using relative positions.
  • Levolutions!

Ground Vehicle Combat:
  • Pillaring - using cover while in a vehicle.
  • Main Gun and Secondary loadout considerations.
    Counter Measure guide.

Air Vehicle Combat;
  • Minimum Radius Turn
  • 3rd person flying
  • Using JDAMS...
  • Combating APS

One of the cool things about using a private server is that we can give players a large health pool and reduce weapon damage. This allows us to get nice and dirty by shooting each other without the interruption of having to respawn.

Also, if you're not interested, or think I would suck as a teacher, just say so! No hard feelings. I am not a pro-player by any means so my ego is as easily bruised.

This is why I fucking love it here!!

I'm always wanting to learn better techniques, I must admit, I am getting a bit frustrated with the early server seed domination maps as pure infantry matches I struggle with, i always look forward to getting onto some armour.

I could use some tips on, the highlighted ones

I would very much like a "tricks" and "what to know" sort of training. Like some ways to get around maps, to infiltrate bases or how to deal with certain vehicles.

Oh you KNOW I'm in!

Obviously, my infantry game has some glaring deficiencies, but I'd also be down for beefing up my armor game, too. In DC, an Abrams was like a second skin to me....in BF4, I'm terrified of being in armored vehicles. From c & c to aiming, nothing feels quite right yet.

If there's anything I can do to help get this rolling, aside from just showing up, please let me know and consider it done.

Added Levolutions to the list because apparently even players (NT) who have 500 hours don't' know how to play the game.

Alright listen up you girls, and 3rd...

To accommodate as many people as possible I'd like to offer 2 identical training sessions.
I've created a Doodle to help us determine when is the best time for most people. Fill in your player name and check the times you're available:

http://doodle.com/v6mkzuaydk8g7bpd

If there are one or two of you that can't make any of these dates and times let me know and we'll work it out. For those of you who are not in the Eastern Time zone, let me know if there are better times for you and we'll accommodate as needed.

Agenda:

For our first try at these training events I'd like to stick to infantry only combat. We'll get into ground and air vehicles in later classes if this works out.

Infantry Combat:
  • Demonstrate the different spotting mechanisms and how Field Upgrades can impact spotting.
    1. Q Spot = 3D spot and placement on minimap
    2. Visual Spot = placement on minimap only
    3. Audio Spot = when you fire an unsuppressed weapon you will briefly show up on the minimap
  • Effectively utilizing cover and concealment. Includes player movement throughout the map.
    1. Always give yourself an "Out"
    2. Concealment does not equal cover - bullets can penetrate some materials.
    3. Concealment - turn off your laser or light when you're hiding in a bush!
    4. Shading - using nearby cover (rocks, walls etc) to shield you from attack.
  • Understanding the different sounds in-game or "How to act like a wall/radar hacker"
    1. Footsteps.
    2. Enemy players yelling when teammates are killed or they deploy health or ammo.
    3. Glass breaking
  • Terminology:
    1. ADS = Aim Down Sights.
    2. Slow Peek = ADS while moving out of cover.
    3. Hip Fire = firing without ADS.
    4. Pre-fire = Firing before you or your target is exposed from cover.
    5. Burn = Being inside a flag radius. "On Burn" = means you are in flag radius.
  • Effective communication: how to report contacts, acknowledging contact calls. We don't have a standard system for calling contacts but we generally want to convey the following things:
    1. How many contacts do you see?
    2. What type of contact do you see? Infantry, Tank, LAV, Helicopter etc.
    3. Where do you see them?
    4. Where are they going?
When someone calls a contact and you decide you can help, acknowledge the call to let them know you're going to help. if you want to get fancy you can tell them how you're going to help and your time on target. If no one speaks up to help that contact, maybe you should go help out...
  • Basic Squad Movement - how to stick with the squad and how to call out contacts using relative positions. This can get difficult. Contact calls using relative position of the squad requires that the squad is sticking close together. Maps like Op Locker and Metro make this a little easier as there aren't many lanes of movement.
  • When to Run & Gun vs When to Peek
  • Show the differences in
    1. Tap Fire = Long Range
    2. Burst Fire = Medium Range
    3. Mag Dump = holy shit they are right on top of me kill them all now!
  • Weapon How-to's: XM-25, SRAW and Javelin (if it still works)
  • Levolutions! We'll take a verbal poll and see which levolutions are unkown.
  • instructor Critiques - I'd like to hear from everyone what they thought of the class and to help improve it.

I'll be honest, it's been a couple of years since I've taught any kind of class and I'm no doubt rusty. Some of the tactics and behaviors may not be effective or efficient. If you've got an idea on how to do something share it! The more questions you ask, the better we can engage with each other.

Let's add unlocks to the agenda. I feel like some folks haven't unlocked the best "unlock tree" for their playstyle. We should also go over kit management so that we're using the best loadout for a given situation.

I did find today I don't really know when to use field upgrades. It's pretty much self explanatory, but I dont know when to use it. This could be good training session.

Will be getting some much needed shoulder surgery at the end of the month and will have a couple weeks to spend on getting through the learning curve of BF4 if all works out well.

The little bit of time I get to spend on it the more I enjoy it and the gameplay.

Sorry to hear about the shoulder but am happy to hear you'll be playing with us. This gives me an opportunity to setup our training server with Test Range map...
