I hear that the Alpha slots may be drying up soon. I purchased the 325a game package tonight.

I made my decision partly based on STLYoungBlood's walk-through of the current ship options.

Chris Roberts is basically why I use computers, so I'm pretty excited about this game. I don't think there's much to do yet, but the dog fighting module may be coming out soon, which should be fun, and will likely accelerate the depletion of alpha slots (unless they add more...).

It seems that the starting price for getting a ship with alpha access is $45 USD.

I wish I had known it would maintain it's momentum last time I looked at it, when there were more ships available. They're still pulling in $1M every few weeks.

I bought in as well.

I created my account and I dont know what to take.

I was thinking about the 325A, but I thought it would be cool to have a Freelancer carrying cargo with fighters supporting. But if that is not the way you guys want to play the game, I might go dogfighting instead.

What do you guys think?

I will probably be getting a fighter in addition to what I have.

This may help. Note: not all these ships are available for alpha buy in, and the specs are 5 months old. I was looking at Hornet variants but they don't have cargo capacity.

I already went through all this. Quite nicely done to compare ships.

I also found this chart comparing all available game packages:

I think I might go with a 325A(so sexy!) and then add other ships as it goes. I don't need all their physical gifts.

I'm keeping an eye on the alpha slots available. As of tonight, there 4300 slots available.

I hear ya! It took me a while to understand it all.

If you want to play the game when it's released, you will have to buy it.
You have no monthly fee. Pretty much like Guild Wars.
You do have microtransactions, ie buy UEC credits with real money like in Planetside or Star Trek Online.

In Star Citizen, when you buy a ship package, you get early access to the ship(s), a hangar and other stuff like UEC credits and insurance. All of this can be seen in the link I posted above.

The base price of the game only gives you a basic ship. You get a bigger package, you get a bigger or more well equipped ship. You also get digital extras and all depending of the package, physical extras like collector's box, usb drive, etc.

There is also a wikia which I found easier to understand:
http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Citizen

Everything is in constant evolution right now. Expect all this to change in the coming weeks/months.

Does it clear it up for you?

BTW, can we have a dedicated sub-forum for Star Citizen?

This is probably old news but I see in their about the game that it's going to be supporting "the full range of PC peripherals" including hands-on-throttle-and-stick setups and Oculus VR.

Exciting.

I'm so out of touch with the gaming industry in general that I didn't even realize PAX east was happening downtown this weekend... and registration is over. I just read there will be an event for Star Citizen there.

Welcome to Star Citizen. I jumped in back in Oct. last year.

I was the same... What to get.

I dove in deeper than I probably should have for my first ship.

I purchased the Rear Admiral package and am the owner of a RSI Constellation.

I am still interested in one more ship yet. Been thinking either the Freelancer or one of the different versions of a Hornet.

I did a post on this game here a while back. I was hoping you guys would take an interest. Glad you guys are on board. It took me 6 months when I first came across the game to join in.

So what are your game names?

Mine is Solvek.

When the game goes live, any of you will more than welcome to come along and join me in my Connie.

My game name is either Butter or chbutter, I can't tell which.

Is there someplace in the game or on their site to setup a friends list aside from starting an organization?
