So we're trying the Rush game mode. Let me know what you all think. There are certain maps we may need to tweak, like making Shanghai Infantry only. Let me know!

One of the benefits of running Rush is that the action is more concentrated and we get to burn through more maps each night since the rounds don't last as long. It also has the added benefit that we don't need a lot of players on to have good games like we need with Conquest Large. That gives us the potential to keep the server populated as players may be enticed to join at a lower population count than previously when we were running CQ Large.

One idea is to make all the maps infantry only until we hit a certain number of players. I find it rude of players to grab a tank when it is 2v2. What do you think?

I think all INF would be great...the one me and you and Khag were on, I believe was gold monster railway would have been great all inf. The clan that was on my side was super excited and on voip while playing.

Gulf of Oman needs to be removed from the rotation if we keep things INF only...it's like a 1500m swim to shore O_o

Thanks Clavis. I get the feeling that we don't really like Rush all that much. And the simple fact that it is not populating the server. I'm thinking we should try something else, thoughts?


**Edit: I've changed all the water born maps to be normal and are no longer Infantry only.

The more I think about it, we would need to identify the maps that work well without vehicles. I believe Zavod is the only one I've player that would work in this manner. I'm sure there are others, I just haven't played them.

Additionally, I have a suspicion that having the server being listed as Infantry Only in the server browser is keeping some players away.

I'd say a mix of rush and conquest, just not so many tickets in conquest.

Rush seems to be more popular during the mornings and afternoon but almost impossible to populate the server in the early evenings. I'm going to try enabling the Adaptive Server Size plugin to see how that may affect player population.

I like the mixed gamemode idea but I don't know if it will keep a populated server. A lot of the filthy casuals hop on to play a specific gamemode and wil find a server to scratch that itch.

So Adaptive Server size is turned on. All this does is chance the advertised max player count depending on the current number of players. Right now we have 38 players on.

So Silk Road with vehicles doesn't work either?
We can easily enable 2 rounds per map.

I've yet to play enough Silk Road to say. Mortis said that on TS. And whatever side gets the tickets.

I think Caspian should come out. With vehicles you've got the A-10 with no MAA to counter. Without vehicles you've got a really long walk to the first set of MCOMs with very little in the way of cover. Even with two spawn beacons we weren't able to arm a single MCOM.

I'd also like to add that the tweaking of infantry-only for certain maps is coming along nicely. Altai Range, Operation Firestorm, Shanghai, and Golmud all work well without vehicles. Tons of fun playing recon in this mode with the spawn beacon and MAV.

So the infantry-only stuff is EPIC. Recon w/ MAV and spawn beacon is ridiculous fun. We had lots of comments yesterday about how everyone liked infantry-only RUSH.

We also had some whiners on the other team saying things like "there's not enough cover for infantry, not balanced, etc...". dst reads this on TS and says "do you know what this means? we have to win now." And we did. Again, EPIC.

Think the Spawn Beacon and MAV dynamic is epic with the infantry only rounds. The nice thing about Rush is that you don't bleed tickets. This means, that even though you have a long walk ahead of you, you don't lose tickets while you're getting there (unless you're getting killed). This type of game makes Spawn Beacons the most valuable resource and the only way to counter them effectively is the MAV. I applaud any game mode that actually makes the Recon class useful.

We now have a low-population Rush map list that sets the tickets to the normal 75. Once it becomes populated tickets are set to 150. Now, due to EA/Dice/Procon fuddiduddiness, it may take a round (or the next map) to pick up the correct ticket counts.

I'm still working on it but this has been a pain in the ass.

Looks like Floodzone points are flipped and there won't be any vehicles.
