Players are quitting when rounds start because the seeders can't ready up. How do we avoid this? My initial thought is to have longer rounds to build the player count before switching maps. For each map switch we lose players (this is normal) but then we lose even more because nobody can ready up next round before everyone quits.

Perhaps a return to the big ticket maplist? Or something like 400 point TDM without a timer?

The maps actually go live even without people hitting ready after a time.

That timeout is 2 to 5min (unkown) and seems to be long enough for people to quit.

Dice LA mentioned they are working on a fix. Sounds like the Ready timer will be an option soon: http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield_4/comments/2i3ace/dice_the_ready_check_needs_some_work_asap/

Still need a workaround in the interim.

I timed the ready up timeout at 3.5 minutes in one test.

Taking NT's ideas and we're trying out a TDM server for 0-18 players with extended tickets and time. After 18 players we'll go back to our other two maplists.

This isn't for you. This is just to get the server started and this formula seems to work for other communites: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/servers/show/pc/4aec8320-85fb-429d-bae2-2dc5e8dd5aeb

That server has been at 30+ since early this morning.

Pretty sure that the URock servers could run anything and be 30+

I'm just saying that from my experience TDM is a niche within the battlefield franchise and not a large one at that.

TDM is quite popular. Additionally, there is no ticket bleed. One player can't simply join the server and take all the flags and leave. The idea with TDM is attract enough people so the Ready Timer isn't a factor.

And honestly, I don't think the lack of server population is because of the Ready Timer but because we are in Classic mode.

Not sure about that. Everywhere I look everyone is praising Classic mode.

Everywhere I look people praise BF:2142 and no one really plays it....

For all the praise for Classic mode, I think that people aren't looking for it. We are one of only a few Classic mode servers right now.

Trying a little experiment where the TDM low pop maplist is set to Normal. Once we get above 18 it'll switch to Classic.

Initial success...?

Again, 0-18 players is a Normal TDM map. Some initial observations: We lucked out and 2 people joined at the same time and didn't immediately leave as the Ready-Up Timer had already expired and they did not have to wait on the seeders to ready up. Once they were on the server, 7 more joined in rapid succession as if we hit critical mass. A couple have just left so we'll see how this goes.

So I'm really curious as to what will happen once we switch out of TDM and go into Classic Mode. To that end, I've added some some server announcements: "It's not Hardcore, it's Classic Mode!"

The rate at which the TDM rounds last means I won't be able to observe the changeover before my rehearsal. If anyone can get eyes on and let me know what happens, that would be appreciated.

Update: We're up to 29 players which means that the round is progressing much faster. We may skip the intermediate map and go straight to the high population map if this keeps up!

The round just ended in a close game. 21 players have left, 15 reamain. Server has switched to Classic Mode and is on the intermediate maplist.

Looks like it did not pick up the Classic mode setting for some reason, maybe next map?

EDIT: Looks like it is on Classic, Battlelog must have needed a minute to update that. 1st round just eneded and no mass exodus. So I guess that's good.
