Can you tell what type of craft I'm prototyping? First Stage

What does this configuration look like it could do? SRB Sep

Here is what the final stage will kinda look like. Still needs more thrust though. Final Upper Stage

This may be getting out of hand:
Intial Launch 1
Initial Launch 2
The 20 SRB's separate 1
The 20 SRB's separate 2
Still Truck'n
The 5 2nd stage boosters are jettisoned 1
The 5 2nd stage boosters are jettisoned 2
Main vehicle in stable orbit, solar panels deployed
More of the same
Main vehicle closeup
2nd half of vehicle on the launch pad (+3000 t)
Closer up on the pad
4025 kN is enough
SRB Sep Pattern
1/4 into the 2nd stage burn
Initial rendezvous 1
initial rendezvous 2
Almost there...
Got it! Room for 74 Kerbals!

You're right. It's getting out of hand. Now I'm even more impressed.
I'm guessing you're building some kind of death ray to eliminate the Soviets.

I'm amazed you got either of those sections into orbit. Structural failures
have plagued my craft so I'm turning green as a Kerbal when I see that kind of lift being made.

I am using some mod that has really strong braces...and I use a bunch of them. This seems to be enough to keep everything nice and stiff.

Your work is impressive Wabbit, BUT, its about time you started venturing further afield. Land on something already!

While I was on vacation I toyed around with building a Mun mission using stock parts and Mechjeb. I think my entire vehicle is good to go but I'm having issues finding flat ground to land on and usually end up tipping my craft over and exploded once I'm on the Mun.

Land on wheels then.. you'll just roll down said hill to a nice stop.

Well I made it to the Mun and back. It wasn't pretty as I've forgotten how to properly get to the Mun, or even how to do it in Mechjeb. I managed to land in a relatively flat spot. My return trip was very quick and I had exactly enough fuel to make it back, though I did smack into the Kerbin atmosphere at a very high rate of speed.

I'll up load pictures when I get home. I couldn't easily get my landing gear to work with the wheels in the few minutes I took last night so I simply added some struts and made a wider foot print for the landing gear.

I also didn't want to leave anything behind so I use the same vehicle to get to the Mun, land and return. No separate landers or command pods.

Question: Can you have more than one Kerbin on an EVA at any one moment?

Answer: yes, yes you can, as soon as you go EVA, the kerbal is classed as a separate ship, so just use the ] or [ keys to switch back to the command pod.

I flew to Minmus, didn't land, just getting used to maneuvering to other heavenly bodies using Mechjeb. I'm gathering screen shots now.

For my current KSP progress I set a goal of learning how to travel between the two moons of Kerbal, Mun and Minmus. For this I created a simple one person craft with plenty of fuel as I wanted to go to Minmus and the Mun and back. I wouldn't be landing, just doing close flybys.

Launch Vehicle
Launch Vehicle Close Up
2nd Stage SRB Sep
Main Vehicle with it's orbital booster stages still attached.
Heading towards Minmus
Orbital boosters jettisoned. Solar power is important!
Minmus, I see you!
Minmus skimming
Heading back in-system. Notice the 4 radially mounted thrusters. These are mono-propellant thrusters that have a slightly greater than 1 STWR. I put them on there as a back-up in case I ran out of LFO fuel. I ended with more fuel than I could possible need so I decided to use the mono-prop thrusters for some added umph!

I still was never able to make the multi-docking work reliably. I found that I was always slightly off from the other docks. Any ideas to fix that? - Quad Dock Example

Excessive Station
Room for 111

And for the LOLs - Experiments in Truss Rockets: Is 74400kN of thrust enough?

I was running out of fuel with my little explorer so I launched a hasty resupply mission:
First, I had to make sure my docking collars were compatible: http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/901008172758973419/1287CCCBD91930B1DA222219272F1056E9EB8103/

Carrying plenty of LFO and Mono fuel: http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/901008172758986456/71798E8A75B26D186C99C803432098821D9255F1/

Refueling complete. The tanker vehicle still has plenty of fuel to return safely to Kerbin. http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/901008172758997197/8D837A24FAE5154A6BA1907781E40B7F62C147BB/

Hey Dan, any tips on building ships to visit other planets?

I got a rover and refuelling station to Mun. Got the idea from a cool Youtube video, but I can't remember who made it. Doh!

I found it's a good idea to shut off torque since its effect is so much more in low gravity. This rover is only suitable with Kerbals with high stupidity and high courage.

I'm amazed this thing held up since wheels have a tendency to "fall off" their attachment points.

I'm a long way from visiting other planets. I'll have to research each planets needs. Apparently if you can get to Eve it's really hard to land on. Have you guys made it there yet?

Yes, think efficiency, you MUST use the LV-N nuke rockets for the transfer stage, also, to start with, dont try and land on a planet, take off and get back to Kerbin with the same vehicle. Its easier to leave your transfer powerhouse in orbit while you land and then re-dock with it afterwards for the trip back. This is even easier on planets that have an atmosphere (duna) so you can just float down on your chutes.

Good tips. I didn't realize the nuke's were that efficient. Cool.

I like the idea of visiting a planet with atmosphere so I may just strike out straight for Duna. Is there a way to judge how much fuel you'll need to get there and back before actually launching?

Finger, that rover looks awesome. Well done! I like your lander design too.
