I don't have one but it does look pretty cool. There are already some funny laws regarding drone use in the US. The FAA ruled that you cannot operate a drone for hire. Meanwhile, Hollywood has picked up on the awesomeness of drone based cameras and are producing very cool creative content using drones as camera platforms. Traditionally they'd have to hire a helicopter, which is obviously more expensive and more dangerous to operate. The Drones allow them to get closer to the action and into small places. But all that, is technically illegal according to the FAA.

I get the feeling that the FAA made this ruling (which has been questioned in the courts to it's legality - apparently they did not allow for public comment on the matter, which is illegal) to buy them time in figuring out how to integrate drones in the national air traffic grid.

Thought it was legal up to a certain height?

If you're operating a drone for money, it's illegal, according to the FAA (I think this is being challenged). I think if you want to fly an RC plane above a certain altitude, you may need permission from the FAA. This would go for model rocket flights as well.

I remember seeing that as well that if you are for hire you are illegal.

I want one more for just having fun with it.
