...that drives me batshit insane.

Completely senseless death due to abject stupidity. Instructor should have known better than to let a kid fire off that gun in full auto mode.

If there's one thing I cannot stand is seeing unsafe attitudes and actions around firearms.

Yeah I saw that...Nothing wrong with lettings kids shoot guns. But, I would never take my hands off them helping them hold that thing.

It's not like the exact thing is depicted in movies or anything...

Being a certified instructor I will say that he made a few very bad errors and the final one cost him his llife. Knowing that a full auto firearm will rise he should have taken a proper position to stop it. My daughter was firing full auto when she was about 8 and I made sure I was in a position to stop anything that could occur if the barrel went anywhere but down range. I also made sure she knew how to hold the gun before letting her shoot it.

When I certify instructors to teach this is one of the things we cover, ALWAYS be in a position to stop an error quickly.
