I keep watching the live stream hoping that this is some elaborate joke but it just keeps getting worse.

That being said, the game looks pretty.

So let's think about this. EA wants to make moneys, so they get a focus group together a couple of years ago to determine what sort of deuce they want to drop. Gaming becomes more popular and young whippersnappers start to join the fray. These folks don't remember past games with really solid gameplay, but they love nice graphics and shit that is OMG EPIC. So here's what probably came out of that focus group:

* Make it OMG EPIC.
* More players is always better. Design the maps for 32 players but put 64 on them. MAX EPIC CHAOS! Flanking is annoying when I'm trying to snipe.
* I want to snipe.
* I'm tired of automatic weapons, I'd rather snipe. Bolt action FTW.
* I want a class focused on melee so I can run around with my sword. I don't want too much shooting in my FPS.
* Lock-on weapons are bothersome when I'm farming kills in the chopper. If we go back in time we won't have lock-on weapons.
* Assassin's Creed is cool, let's add horses.
* The Red Baron was such a badass, his plane was red! It has three wings and goes 80MPH. Sweet.
* Trench warfare would make for good gameplay. We can headglitch easier with that.

He was probably the only YouTuber not invited to the EA events.

What I don't get is that they know that BF-5 had to knock it out of the park on release. BF4 release had people screaming for their heads. HARDLINE was a wholesale epic fail. Battlefront is also shoddy.

WHO ASKED FOR WW1 ?!?!

Sure it looks great, but here's the thing.

If BF5 was the exact same as BF4 with upgraded graphics and new maps I'd pay full price for that+season pass. Someone's too much on the "we must innovate" bandwagon.

Horribly, horribly, disappointed.

I lurk in a lot of places, and I would say the vast majority of folks wanted to go back in time. If you remember back in the early 2000s WWII games were all over the place, and then Desert Combat/BF2/CoD4 came out and started the trend of modern combat games. Now that has become stale to everyone and we have to go back and do it all over again. Also, futuristic combat is also stale apparently if you look at the reaction to CoD Infinite Warfare. So the only place to go is in the past. And EA have now delivered what practically everyone wants.

Innovation in FPS games is really overrated. I'll take small, well thought-out improvements to the formula, but that's not EPIC enough for others.

I intend on playing Overwatch while all those "gamers" are leveling up their horse armor. As modern combat goes out of style, it seems that arena shooters may be coming back (this is another cycle that's hopefully happening) and I will likely participate in that for the next decade until modern combat comes back.

Regardless of how BF1 is received, I will always be interested in a Battlefield game. While WWI doesn't interest me all that much, if the next Battlefield is modern combat I'll be first in line to be get back on the BF bandwagon.

As suspected, BF1 will play just like BF4. So your WW1 environment will have an abundance of automatic weapons. Maybe the biplanes can do 300 knots too. Oh, and melee combat is a really important feature for FPS:

Quote:
GamesBeat: What can you talk about in regards melee combat, how that slots into all of this? That seems like it would be a focus with trench warfare.

Berlin: That was definitely a focus for us. It was a big part of the era, that mix between powder-based weapons and hand-to-hand combat. It was important for us to lift the importance of hand-to-hand combat, and also the depth and meaning of what weapon you choose or what types of gameplay you want to focus on. I can’t go into detail on how the new system works, but we did mention the bayonet charge. That’s a very powerful melee skill.

Can't wait to run around on my horse swinging my sword around.
